Alaskan Malamute Illustrated Breed Standard

The Alaskan Malamute Illustrated Standard, sometimes referred to as the illustrated breed standard, demonstrates structure, movement, and important points of breed type which enable a dog to adhere to the principle of form follows function as correct for that breed of dog. Illustrated Standards are used by AKC, UKC, CKC, FCI, and parent dog breed clubs around the world to create a visualization of the breed. The illustrated standard is an enduring tool for parent breed clubs in guiding and educating judges, breeders, club members, and students of the breed. This visualization of the breed can also be used as a judges' study guide, a tool which the American Kennel Club (AKC) is encouraging breed clubs to utilize in education. The AMCA's illustrated breed standard committee and judges' education committee worked closely with the artist to achieve the highest level of educational functionality, combined with an aesthetically pleasing presentation. The length of time to completion of the illustrated standard was quite long, and largely was accomplished by the committee's commitment to the project and united vision of what is correct for the Alaskan Malamute breed of dog.

The actual verbiage of the currently accepted breed standard is printed in bold text, and the explainatory text is below each section with associated images for that aspect of the dogs phenotypical traits.
